Build your artwork around the chosen template, not around a generic bleed setting. These short guides explain what to check and why it matters.
Start with the finished size
Trim size is the size after cutting. Canvas size is the full artwork area, including bleed. For folded products, also distinguish the closed size from the open flat spread.
Example: a 3.5 × 2 in business card with 0.0625 in bleed on every edge needs a 3.625 × 2.125 in canvas. Add the bleed twice to each finished dimension. Use the actual values shown on your selected template.
Bleed, trim & the safe area
Bleed is the background that extends beyond the cut. Extend edge-to-edge photos and colors through that outer area. Do not leave a white border there unless the design calls for one.
Trim is the intended cut. Safety is the inset where essential text, logos and details should stay. Cutting tolerances mean a fine border close to trim can look uneven. Never assume every product uses the same bleed or safety inset.
Folds are not always equal panels
A tri-fold or roll-fold panel that tucks inside may be narrower than the outside cover. Gate folds, double-parallel folds, French folds and accordion folds have their own panel arrangements.
Use the exact front/outside and back/inside references. Do not mirror, stretch or reuse one side without checking. Fold lines guide panel placement; keep important wording away from folds and confirm panel order before printing.
Resolution at the printed size
For raster artwork, resolution depends on pixels divided by the final printed inches. Enlarging the print reduces effective PPI. A file’s DPI label alone does not prove it has enough detail.
Our standard is 300+ DPI at print size; 240–299 requires special approval and below 240 is not accepted. Pure vector artwork has no pixel-resolution minimum. A PDF can contain vectors, images, or both. Rendering or upsampling at 300 DPI cannot restore detail missing from the original.
CMYK, RGB & color expectations
RGB is used for screens; CMYK is a process-printing color model. Some bright screen colors cannot be reproduced the same way in ink. Color conversion also depends on the destination profile and production process.
Prepare process-print artwork for the CMYK requirements confirmed for your job. Ask us about the correct output profile and any specialty or spot-color requirements. Do not add an arbitrary profile or assume a home-screen preview is a color proof.
Fonts, linked images & clean exports
Embed permitted fonts in the final PDF, or outline text where appropriate while keeping an editable master. Check missing fonts and linked images in your design application before export.
Remove template instructions, guide artwork, hidden test objects and unwanted backgrounds. Include the required bleed; add crop marks only if requested. Open the exported PDF and review every page, front and back, at a useful zoom level.

At 300 PPI, multiply each printed dimension in inches by 300. Include bleed if you are calculating the full artwork canvas.
A letter-size 8.5 × 11 in raster page needs 2550 × 3300 pixels at 300 PPI, before any additional bleed. A 3.625 × 2.125 in business-card canvas needs at least 1088 × 638 pixels after rounding up.
Pixels do not certify quality. A screenshot or a small image enlarged to that pixel count can still look blurry. Preserve original image detail and keep vectors as vectors when possible.

Export with the job in mind.
Use your design application’s print PDF export. Your printer’s specification takes priority over a generic preset. A PDF/X or Press Quality preset can be a starting point, but it does not replace checking bleed, fonts, color and the final file.
In InDesign or Illustrator, check document setup first, then review bleed and output settings during export. In Canva, use its print-oriented PDF option and verify the downloaded page size and bleed; available color options can vary by plan and export workflow. Confirm unfamiliar export settings with our team.
For delivery: send the actual PDF file rather than a screenshot, browser preview, or photograph. Keep your original editable design and any supporting artwork.

Are the printing templates free to download?
Yes. The available templates on this page are free to download without an account. Choose your product, size, shape, fold and printed side. Download availability does not confirm that a specific stock or finishing option is available for your order.
Which file should I download: PDF guide or EPS ZIP?
The PDF is a full-size raster reference for viewing and checking layout. The EPS ZIP contains the editable vector master when one is available. Unzip it and open the EPS in a compatible design application. A JPG preview is for reference, not a replacement for your production artwork.
Should I print the red, blue or fold lines?
No. They show where to trim, where essential content should stay, and where folds fall. Keep template graphics separate and remove them from your final production artwork. Do not delete the bleed from the artwork itself.
Is bleed always 0.125 inches?
No. Bleed and safety requirements vary by product and template. Many templates here use 0.0625 in bleed per edge, while others differ. Follow the dimensions on your selected reference and the specifications confirmed for your job.
How do I choose inside and outside brochure files?
Read the side label on each entry and use the matching template link where available. Different panels can have different widths and orientation. Confirm your closed size, flat spread, fold direction and page order before designing.
Can I make a low-resolution file print-ready by saving it at 300 DPI?
No. Changing the DPI label, resampling or rendering a PDF at 300 DPI cannot recreate missing source detail. Evaluate the original pixels at the intended printed size and replace blurry images with higher-quality originals.
What does a safety-review notice mean?
The template’s safety inset could not be confirmed automatically. Use the safety guides visible in the source file and ask our team to confirm the layout before production. The notice is not a passed preflight result.
